"Some people may not realize it, but The Rascals were the first rock band in the world"
— Steven Van Zandt
When stadium rock concerts began in the '60s, sound broadcast and stage lighting were fairly crude compared to today's technology.
As wattage output increased for both, the federal government became more interested in enforcing decibel limits and optical regulations for rock concerts.
Blue Oyster Cult was one of the groups they were concerned about (this was documented in a Time magazine article).
BOC's use of intense lasers, strobes, and flashbombs combined with high volume music often left concertgoers reeling.

The Dazz Band was the first group out of Cleveland, Ohio to win a Grammy Award
for Best Performance by a R&B Group or Duo for their hit "Let It Whip" in 1982.
The Dazz Band scored over 20 hits on Billboard's R&B and Pop charts.
“…Elton John…
He said to his team, “I want this guy playing on my album.”
That was in the Spring of ’85 when he invited me to play Live Aid with him. After that show, he said, “Let’s put this band on the road.”
I signed a 2-year contract with him and the rest is history. I went from playing in studios to live shows, just like that.
In the end, I ended up doing 10 world tours, 5 studio albums, and 2 live albums with Elton.”
— Charlie Morgan, drummer
The Sunliners were formed in 1960.
The band had been playing “Get Ready” for three years on the club circuit.
… Motown took notice and signed them to a recording contract.
The Sunliners changed their name to Rare Earth and the rest is history…
Their hit, “Get Ready”, began to climb on the pop charts, reaching #4 on Billboard’s Hot 100.
Peter Rivera and Rare Earth became superstars and a part of the Motown legacy.
